Telling a story at Glastonbury Festival in 2009
"There have been great societies that did not use the wheel, but there have been no societies that did not tell stories."
Born and raised in Aberdeen on the North East coast of Scotland, Pauline discovered storytelling around 9 years ago when she began storytelling at Archaeolink Prehistory Park, Aberdeenshire.
A few years down the line, she joined the Grampian Association of Storytellers as a committee member, and has been telling stories with them and on her own at local events and festivals ever since. She is now GAS Treasurer, looks after their web page and is having more fun telling stories than ever before! In 2009 and 2010, Pauline was one of the organisers of Gadiefest, a new storytelling festival for the North East of Scotland. The Gadiefest committee are currently hoping to find a new location for Gadiefest following the closure of Archaeolink Prehistory Park in 2011.
Her favourite stories to tell are traditional scottish tales, folk tales from around the world, stories passed on by her parents and grandparents and some she has written herself. She also enjoys using stories to raise awareness of science, history and the environment.
Pauline also sings Scotlands traditional songs and ballads which were taught to her by Stanley Robertson and Grace Banks amongst others.
The past few years have seen Pauline tell stories at the Glastonbury of Performing Arts, Archaeolink PreHistory Park, Aberdeen Treefest, Muir of Dinnet Nature Reserve, Crathes Castle and Caslte Fraser various local festivals and many other events (see links from the events page for details). See the events page for what's planned this year.
